About this app

The only app to access your personal tax details with HMRC. Take control of your finances and join over 1.1 million people using the HMRC app every month. Download the HMRC app from the UK Government here.

We are currently advising customers of their new tax codes for the new tax year. Use this app to check your code and update next year’s estimated pay if needed.

The HMRC app is also a handy way to:

- check your pay a few days before pay day
- check previous payments from your employer
- find out how much Income Tax you should pay
- check your company benefits
- find your tax codes
- claim a refund if you’ve paid too much tax
- work out your take-home pay with the tax calculator
- set reminders for your Self Assessment payments
- check and save your National Insurance number
- manage and renew your tax credits
- access your Help to Save account
- check your Child Benefit
- check your State Pension
- check progress on forms you’ve sent to HMRC
- read messages from HMRC
- update your postal address
- choose to be contacted by HMRC electronically, instead of by letter

You can use your Government Gateway account to sign in. If you don’t have one, registration is easy and fast. You will need your National Insurance number and birth date to start.

Once you’re set-up, you can sign in quickly and securely using your face, fingerprint, or iris (depending on device support).

On the whole I find the app useful, but when I click on a link to for example to check National insurance contributions I get a message telling me page cannot be found. I have uninstalled the app and re installed to no avail. I have also cleared cache and memory. I use a Samsung S10+. Any suggestions please?

I had to reinstall the App and so do not have access codes set up until I sign in. However, you cannot sign in if you have forgotten your password because to do a password reset you need to access the code that was sent to your App... So it's a catch 22. I cannot sign into the App or online... The online chatbot is not helpful at all either and just goes in circles with generic links to password reset. I am 10 hours ahead of the UK so this is a huge inconvenience all round

Hi Cindi sorry you've experienced some problems. If you call HMRC technical support +44 161 930 8445 they can send you a new password AND remove the authenticator for getting access codes. Sign in to your account using the new password and you can then add up to 3 methods of getting access codes so you always have a back up.

Improved over time. Has now become very useful. Once setup, it's dead easy to gain access to your state pension forcast and related national insurance contributions. National insurance number is readily available. After registering for personal tax you're issued a number, allowing submission of returns, viewing historical records, current year's tax liability and much more. Configure to get correspondence, invaluable to help in organising important letters between you and HMRC.
