Open Innovation takes centrestage at this year’s TechInnovation

SINGAPORE, 26 July 2017 –Singapore's annual industry-technology matching event TechInnovation is back. Held on 19 to 20 September at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, TechInnovation 2017 will bring together leading international speakers, industry experts, researchers, tech seekers and investors for two days of sharing and collaborating.

Enterprises can tap on the world's latest technologies to develop their portfolio of innovative products and services. Themed Discover, Connect, Collaborate, TechInnovation will feature 140 exhibitors showcasing over 400 enabling technologies.

Mr S. Iswaran, Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) will be the Guest-of-Honour at TechInnovation 2017. Now into its sixth year, the event is set to attract over 3,000 delegates from around the world. TechInnovation features innovations and technologies in sectors such as info-communications, electronics, materials, manufacturing, personal care, healthcare, medtech, energy and environment and food science.

Organised by IPI Singapore, this year's keynote speakers are Sean Carney, Chief Design Officer of Royal Philips, who will speak about Co-creating Solutions in Health Technology; and Phyllis Ong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Armstrong Industrial Corporation, who will be sharing her expertise on Inspiring Creativity and Open Innovation at Armstrong.

Innovators with the right solutions have the chance to work with leading enterprises

The crowdsourcing segment is a mainstay of TechInnovation where industry leaders will share emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in their respective sectors. They will invite solutions, technologies, and partnerships from the industry and the R&D community to collaborate on new technologies. Innovators then have the opportunity to work with some of the world's market leaders.

This year’s crowdsourcing speakers include: Dr Xinming Wan, Chief Engineer, Haier Open Innovation Centre, China; Fonzarelli Ong, Head, Digital Banking at Citibank Singapore; Dennis Dizon, Innovation Director Consumer Health, Unilab, Philippines; Rutjwate Taharnklaew, Vice President R&D Centre, Betagro Group, Thailand; and Carl Clayton, Outside Innovation Strategist at Reckitt Benckiser (RB), United Kingdom (UK).

The latest in food innovations to make their debut

“TechInnovation aims to help small-and-medium-enterprises (SMEs) collaborate with the brightest minds in key sectors. This year, we will introduce the Food Innovation track, where food companies can learn how to break boundaries by leveraging technologies in automation, blockchain, sensors, and ingredients. They will gain insights in improving in areas such as nutrition, food sustainability, distribution and food safety,” said Professor Lam Khin Yong, Executive Director of IPI.

The Food Innovation track's key speakers include Jane Barnett, Head of Insights, of Mintel, Australia and New Zealand, Southeast Asia and India; Alan Phua, Master Builder at Alchemy Foodtech, Augustas Alesiunas, CEO of FOODSniffer; Tushar Mohan, CEO of Souschef; and Marco Vitale, CEO of Foodchain.

There will also be a Food Innovation pavilion showcasing technologies relevant to the food industry such as smart labels to help retailers secure their cold chain logistics and minimise food spoilage and wastage; eco food packaging and advanced edible material technologies derived from natural plant sources to lower the Glycemic Index of everyday foods.

European technology providers seeking technology partnerships in Singapore and Asia

Buoyed by the previous edition’s success, the technology marketplace will welcome returning technology partners who will exhibit a wider array of technologies at TechInnovation 2017 as well as a delegation of European exhibitors who are participating in TechInnovation for the first time.

Companies from countries such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Spain, Slovakia, the Netherlands, and the UK will exhibit technologies in areas of artificial intelligence, 3D recognition, diagnostic medical devices, enzymatic solutions, functional materials, neuromonitoring and more.

“We are thrilled to have a European Pavilion of 15 SMEs participating for the first time at TechInnovation. These SMEs are highly innovative businesses with global ambitions that have the potential to disrupt established value networks and markets,” said Dr Bernd Reichert, Head of Unit, Executive Agency for SMEs of the European Commission.

TechInnovation 2017 will explore four key technology themes. They are:

  • Services & Digital Economy, which delves into the Electronics and Infocomm sectors;
  • Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering which looks at Chemicals, Manufacturing and Materials;
  • Health & Personal Care which focuses on Food, Healthcare, Life Sciences and Personal Care; and
